Parking within Chinatown

HDB will install Electronic Parking System at the surface car parks at Kreta Ayer Surface Car Park, to better manage the parking demands at the Car Park. An additional Electronic Signage along New Bridge Road before Smith Street, will be installed to inform motorist of the parking situation at Kreta Ayer Multi Storey Car Park.

From 1879 and 1887, Telok Ayer Bay was filled in with earth from nearby hillocks and existing marshland was drained. As the number of immigrants swelled and the trade opportunities increased there was a great many shop houses built in the area.
The façade of early shop houses built in Telok Ayer Street were mainly the result of land division and the availability of timber beams.
Celebrate Mid-Autumn in Chinatown
Mid- Autumn Light-Up Ceremony 2011

It is a myriad of activities in Chinatown some 20,000 people took part in the light—up ceremony. Our MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC, Dr Lily Neo and Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean got the party started, prompting performers from Singapore and overseas to comb the stretch of New Bridge Road and Eu Tong Sen Street.
Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival 2011 "I am a Bazaar King!" Competition
Period from 28 August to 11 September 2011

Over 300 street stalls offering a wide range of festive goodies. Join in the first-ever youth-oriented "I am a Bazaar King!" Competition aimed at promoting youth entrepreneurship and social enterprise.
Singapore Iconic Lantern Design Competition
As part of the Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival 2011 celebrations, the winning designs, along with the other entries, will be exhibited at Central from 21 August to 25 September from 11am to 10pm.

Lantern Painting Competition
It is now displaying at Pagoda Street, exit A of Chinatown MRT station. Do go down to have a look on the creative designs from the children and students.

Mass Lantern Walk & Celebration 大型游灯与庆祝会
Date:10 September 2011 (Saturday)
Time:7.30pm - 10pm
Venue:Starting Point - Hong Lim Park
Ending Point - New Bridge Road (main stage in front of Lucky Chinatown)

Singaporeans and visitors may join in this colourful procession from Hong Lim Park to the heart of Chinatown as the festival comes to a close with the mass lantern walk along the streets of Chinatown under the moonlit sky.
