Five Footway Festival
Chinatown Business Association (CBA) hosted her inaugural Five Footway Festival on 23rd and 24th March 2019. The 2-day festival relived the olden Chinatown atmosphere by recreating scenes as far back as 1930s.
Visitors got the chance to travel back in time to the olden days of Chinatown and soak in the atmosphere and heritage of the hawking scenes of yesteryear. All without a time-travel machine!
The olden street scenes were recreated and characters from the past could be seen wandering around – from samsui women, night soil collectors, to the mata-mata in shorts. Visitors got a chance to snap Instagram-worthy selfies with them, all while racing in clogs or snacking on sweets and snacks well loved by our grandparents. There were also heritage food stalls serving traditional Chinese delicacies, game stations, walking tours, as well as workshops where visitors got to learn new skills taught by various vendors.
